
Teresa Higgins was born in Washington D.C. surrounded by a family of artists where she developed a passion for portraiture.
However, determined to be different, she completed her degree at the University of Maryland in Secondary Education majoring
in Speech/Theater and minoring in English. After graduating she moved to Massachusetts and taught Speech, Theater and
English in the public schools. But her love for the visual arts persisted. In 1973 she began graduate study in painting and portraiture
at Massachusetts College of Art and The Back Bay Art Studios. She began creating custom portraits in 1974. Her work has been exhibited
during the past thirty years with many art associations, galleries and public institutions including: The Copley Society, The Cambridge Art
Association, the Marblehead Art Association, The Springfield Artists League, The Wilson Gallery in Boston, The Swain Frame Gallery in
Dover and the Natick courthouse. Her works hang in private collections throughout the United States as well as in England and France.
She is a juried associate member of the Pastel Society of America and a member of the Portrait Society of America. Her paintings in oils
and pastels are created primarily from her photographs of the subject and can be viewed in her Natick studio.
With twenty- five years of teaching experience including Boston Latin High School, Marblehead High School and Brookline Adult Education,
she also teaches Studio Art Workshops for children and adults in her studio in Natick.
